Within the world of digital marketing we can find many positions where each task and planning give unique results in different companies. On this occasion, Luis will tell us a little about his position as “Affiliate manager”, have you ever heard?
We invite you to read this interview and learn about Luis’s work as “Affiliate manager” and a great colleague within the ULabers community.
INTERVIEW
1p: For those who don’t know you at ULab, who are you?
I’m Luis! I work in Digital Marketing, more specifically in the area of Affiliate Marketing.
A while ago, I was living and working in Germany and thanks to the pandemic I had the opportunity to return to my native Alicante. For a year I was working from home and when I saw that I was becoming crazier than I already was, I decided to join ULab. One of the best decisions I made last year.
2p: What do you do for a living?
I work as an ‘’Affiliate manager’’ . It is a part of “performance” digital marketing that focuses on generating traffic and sales through “partners” in which you always pay a commission…
Let’s say you want to buy a car; On the internet there are thousands of car comparisons and blogs that talk about the subject and help you make decisions. Possibly in those pages at some point redirect you to a website of a car dealer or insurance company. Usually the car or insurance dealer pays these websites to send them traffic.
Just in case that at the end, for example, you perform some action on the dealer’s website (ask for an appointment). the blog receives a commission. What do you think is the biggest affiliation program in the world? Of course, Amazon.
It’s a bit complex but it’s a very entertaining job. It combines analytics with selling and negotiation.
3p: What is your role in the company?
Right now I just work for GoStudent. My job is to get leads from parents interested in having their children take online tutoring. I lead the global affiliation.
4p:Nowadays, we live in a very competitive world . What do you think is the trait that differentiates you from the rest?
One thing I’ve been told by several companies is that I create a very good working environment. Although I am very serious, organized and efficient sometimes. I guess I combine my Spanish art and joy with the way I work that I learned living in Holland and Germany. It’s a good combination.
5p: How did you end up at ULab?
Google maps, search for “Coworking Alicante”. I saw that ULab had the most reviews.
I noticed that ULab was the coworking that had the most reviews and it was located in the center. When I called Paula and she told me straight up ‘’ Come here whenever you want and try it ‘’. I thought that everything was very fast and easy.
It wasn’t long until I started to feel at home.
6p: How do you feel working here in ULab? What made you think coworking was the best option for you?
As I said before, I needed to be able to combine working from home and having a physical office. With the pandemic, you realize more than ever, that we need to be able to interact with others. There are days that even if I don’t talk to anyone, just because I’m going to ULab to work, I still feel like I ‘ve had a productive day.
Coworking also gives you that library feeling. You see everyone there working hard, which motivates you to do more. Then it’s a perfect place to meet people who are in a similar situation to you.
I think that the ULab community has a very healthy environment, I feel proud to be a “ULaber”.
7p: What’s your opinion on how coworking has changed after the pandemic, in a practical sense? meaning the ‘new normality’ of space organization, office management, flow of people, social distancing, etc.
It’s hard for me to answer this question, as I never experienced what it was like to work in a coworking space before the pandemic. I imagine that now we will have fewer social events etc. I think at ULab we are quite respectful and have been adapting according to the situation.
8p: What’s on the cards for you for the rest of 2022 and 2023? Do you have any cool projects in the process that you would like to share with us ?
On a work level I would like to settle in my job, grow the affiliation team and make sure we are one of the top marketing channels in the company. I still have a lot of work to do.
9p: Small test: Choose a movie/series/book that represents your life ( Or both… it’s your call!)
My life is too normal to be portrayed in a movie. The last time I watched a movie that I thought represented a normal life in a funny way was when I watched ‘’Nebraska’’.
10p: And finally, is there a quote or a philosophy that you live by?
The truth is that the philosophy that I feel most attracted to is the ‘’ Stoicism’’. It helps me quite a lot when I am dealing with problems and it also helps me keep a ‘’real happiness’’ mentality , because of this, I live life to the fullest (day by day).
I recommend the book ‘’ El arte de la buena vida: Un camino hacia la alegría estoica’’.
